How to read these numbers
Prices are dollars per hundredweight ($/cwt) for Medium & Large frame #1 steers - the benchmark class quoted across the industry. A 550 lb steer at $400/cwt brings about $2,200. Heifers typically bring $20–40/cwt less than same-weight steers; unweaned or fleshy cattle are discounted, weaned and value-added cattle earn premiums - the per-barn ledgers carry those notes row by row.
