Sale Barn Report

About

What this is

Sale Barn Report turns USDA's per-auction market reports into readable, comparable pages. USDA Agricultural Marketing Service market reporters sit at 81 livestock auctions we track (of several hundred nationwide) and publish each sale's results as a PDF. Those PDFs are authoritative and public domain - and nearly unreadable on a phone. Each barn page here is that same report, parsed: every class, grade, weight and price, the reporter's market narrative, and receipts.

Sources

Every number comes from USDA AMS Livestock, Poultry & Grain Market News - Feeder and Replacement Cattle Auctions. Each barn page links its official source PDF. National and state averages are computed here: head-weighted means of Medium & Large 1 steer sales, bucketed by 100 lb class - the method is described on every page that shows an average.

Cadence

Barns sell on a fixed weekday and USDA posts results the same evening or next morning. This site rebuilds every morning (Eastern) and again after the heavy Monday–Wednesday runs. A barn that skips a week keeps its most recent report, clearly dated.

What we don't do

No price predictions, no marketing advice, no futures commentary, and no numbers that aren't in a USDA report. Rows that fail a plausibility check (a keying error in the source, for example) are dropped and noted in the build, never silently “fixed”.
